CareerSiteAdvisor.com: UK's first Candidate CareersCast

With many of the 2.2 million people out of work in the UK relying solely on the internet to find a job*, a new web TV channel will offer expert advice to jobseekers to help them find a job online, where a labyrinth of over 10,000 job boards and social networking sites dominate.

The CareersCast (www.careersiteadvisor.com), will launch on Wednesday June 3rd at 12:30pm, with its inaugural live videocast featuring experts from the recruitment, internet and social networking industries.

Following on from the success of the innovative website, Career Site Advisor, CareersCast will offer jobseekers a chance to learn directly from experts such as Luke McKend from Google about how to find a job online says Career Site Advisor co-founder Keith Robinson.

The recruitment industry has undergone a revolution since the first job board launched in 1994, but many jobseekers are in this market for the first time and may never have looked online for a job before, Mr. Robinson says.

Experts participating in the Career Site Advisor livecast include:

Luke Mckend Google: Finding the right job when searching on Google
Andy Headworth - Sirona Consulting: Manage finding a job through networking
Don Leslie BLT: How to best approach a recruitment firm what should you know
Dave King - Shares his experience of being unemployed and online job seeking.
Elaine Hewens - FinelyBalanced, providing advice on career development

Special thanks to JobsGoPublic.com who are sponsoring the first livecast.

The website, Career Site Advisor launched in March and offers a single reference point for online jobseekers to search job sites, company career sites and recruitment consultancies in one directory as well as advice and links to online resources.

Job site information from CareerSite Advisor

UK’s first career site comparison and search website launches

A new website launches today offering a single reference point for online jobseekers, many with no experience of unemployment or the need to look for a job since the first job board launched in 1994.

As the internet continues to revolutionise the recruitment industry with more than 10,000 online job boards and career sites, CareerSite Advisor (http://www.careersiteadvisor.com) is the UK’s first web 2.0 career site comparison index, listing thousands of commercial job boards and corporate career sites – jobs which often cannot be found on any other job board.

“With the number of registered unemployed approaching two million, the last time the UK saw figures like these was back in 1999 when the internet was still finding its own way,” says Keith Robinson, founder of CareerSite Advisor.

“The idea of applying to a job online was viewed as a desperate measure then, but today it is absolutely essential,” Mr Robinson says.

The web-based service also compares reviews written by other job seekers who share their job search experience and by recruitment professionals. In addition, the website acts as a one-stop-shop aggregating relevant online jobseeker and career advice information.

The decreasing costs of setting up a career website combined with the rise in social networking sites means this type of service is in demand says Richard Tyrie, founder of leading public sector recruitment website Jobsgopublic and Talent Management technology firm JGP.

“We can safely assume the number of websites will increase exponentially and with existing website providers such as Linkedin entering the market, it will become increasingly challenging for both employers and talent to navigate through the various options,” Mr Tyrie says.

CareerSite Advisor works by offering jobseekers the ability to search for jobs by occupation, industry and location, then lists all relevant job boards and corporate career sites. Search results can be further refined by direct employers such as British Airways or University of London, recruitment consultancies like Michael Page or Angela Mortimer as well as by industry, region, trade and industry associations or general sites like Monster or Jobsite.

Career sites not currently listed in the index can add their listing for free, while those who are can take possession of their listing in order to add to it, or for a small annual fee enhance its appearance in the index.

A widget that offers a quick reference search is also available to download, host and display on any websites is also available (http://www.careersiteadvisor.com/widget.php).

TalkingAge.com: Employers welcome launch of dedicated career portal for older jobseekers

TalkingAge.com - jobsite for mature job seekers

TalkingAge.com: Employers welcome launch of dedicated career portal for older jobseekers

LONDON, UK, 05 February 2008 - TalkingAge (www.TalkingAge.com), the UK careers website dedicated to older jobseekers, launched today. The website, with more live jobs than any other in the sector, gives mature workers direct access to careers advice and candidate forums. The site exclusively carries real jobs advertised by employers who judge applications on ability alone. Members of The Age and Employment Network (TAEN), The Employers Federation on Age (EFA) and Age Positive, TalkingAge offers age neutral employers the ability to engage older candidates in a job seeking environment.

The over 65’s spend the longest amount of time online, and internet surfers over the age of 50 account for nearly a third of all time spent online by British web users. Significantly, nearly half of over 50’s want to work beyond retirement age, yet more than 80% have already experienced some kind of ageist rejection by employers. TalkingAge combines jobs, communities and advice for the first time to serve this increasingly crucial segment of the workforce.

Mel Clark, Director of TalkingAge, commented: “The UK population is ageing. By 2020, half of all adults will be over 50, and the squeeze on talent that employers are already experiencing will continue. As increasing numbers of 18-24 year olds go into higher education, there will be fewer young people to fill the skills gap created by those retiring at the end of their working lives.”

She added: “On the other hand, we have a growing talent pool of older job seekers who want to work, and who have lots to offer, but just can’t find the right vehicle. Some older job seekers are put off by the perception that their applications are discarded because of their age. Others have specific questions, such as if they’re permitted to work in paid employment despite claiming a state pension. TalkingAge meets these needs.”

Employers whose jobs feature on the site at launch, including Wolseley UK, Wincanton, Telford and Wrekin Council, Alton Towers, Power Plate, JH Consulting, Classroom, Age Concern and Rowden House, have been quick to support the concept. Vannessa Burgess, Resourcing Manager of Wolseley UK outlines the reasons for their involvement: “We recruit over 3000 people a year and mature workers are a crucial and hugely valuable part of our workforce. We think the market has been crying out for a careers website geared specifically toward the needs of older jobseekers. Listing our jobs on TalkingAge is a great opportunity to encourage applications from the widest possible audience.”

TalkingAge combines the full functionality of a job board – a searchable database of live jobs from direct employers and recruitment consultancies, automated jobs-by-email delivery, the ability to post a CV which employers can browse – with job seeker communities, CV writing and interview tips, links to getting legal and tax advice, and work-life forums where participants can help each other and share advice.

Clark concluded: “At the end of the day, it’s all about ability. TalkingAge gives people the tools, means and confidence to connect with real jobs.”
